Shiploader – Cannington Mine Project
This was a value design and construct project for BHP’s Cannington Mine.
Steelcad was involved early in the documentation phase when both the mechanical and structural design were incomplete. We provided dimensional fit and clearance checks during design finalisation and carried the drafting through to as-built and owner modifications. The loader was built in Mackay, North Queensland, and transported to Townsville by heavy-lift ship for final commissioning.

This project was built to sub-assembly stage in Mackay, North Queensland and transported to the site for final construction and commissioning.

Scope – Main slew ring, platforms, the boom structure and mechanicals, and the bucket wheel.
Steel Tonnage – 420 tonne
Townsville Sugar – Bulk Storage Terminal
Now the world’s largest bulk sugar storage facility measures 335m long, 112m wide and 30m high and is designed to hold 400,000 tonnes of sugar.
Structural solution was the use of portal frames composed of steel trusses spanning 53.5m and spaced at 8.0m centers. Overall the building uses approx. 1,600 tonnes of steel sections including the external conveyor towers and galleries.
