2026 begins on another celebratory note as John Norbury marks his 20th year with us this month.
Over the past two decades, John has become the backbone of our technical operations, ensuring our offices run seamlessly. His passion for innovation has driven the development of new applications and features that help Steelcad deliver high‑quality detailing and streamline workflows across the business.
Looking back to 2006, when John joined us as a cadet Steel Detailer, the worlds technical landscape looked very different. Twitter had just launched, Google had acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion (currently valued at $140 billion), and the Nintendo Wii was hitting living rooms everywhere. As technology evolved, so did John—growing from a detailer into a key driver of our digital transformation.
Early in his journey, John’s talent and curiosity in IT quickly became clear, leading him to focus on Research and Development. He has been an active contributor to the Tekla User Foundation Program and was honoured with the Tekla Open API People’s Award, a testament to his commitment to pushing boundaries and supporting the wider Tekla community.
Throughout his career, John has designed and implemented our IT infrastructure—both locally and in the cloud—enabling seamless collaboration for staff and contractors regardless of location. To support this work, he learned C#, SQL, VBA, WPF, UWP, and web development, continually expanding his skill set to meet the needs of a rapidly changing industry.
